An Exploration of Traditional and Innovative Techniques for Adventurous Knitters
Anchoring Sewing Thread
If you're adding buttons or other non-yarn embellishments to your knitting, you'll need to use sewing thread and a sewing needle. The knot in sewing thread is very small relative to the knitting yarn and has a tendency to pop right through the fabric. To secure it, thread the needle and knot the thread so it is doubled. Bring the needle from wrong side to right side of the knitting but do not pull it all the way through. On the right side, put your button on the needle or take the first stitch in your embellishment. Bring the needle back to the wrong side and pull it through the loop by the knot. Tighten and continue sewing as you normally would.
